Preparation for the winter months

This pic was taken on a lovely fall day but as we all know those days are dwindling quickly and we’ve already had our butts kicked into high gear by a two inch snowfall last week. Most of the girls are bred at this point except for 3 new arrivals that came yesterday. Meanwhile milk production is dropping off and we are planning for the last two months of their lactation until they dry off for January and February. We have built them a large greenhouse style structure to reside in during the winter months. It will let in lots of light and keep them snug and warm. See the initial stage below:

The other major project this fall has been to put in a new milking system so that we can milk up to four goats at a time instead of just one. We can hardly wait! Final pictures to come.

On the production side of things we have revved up caramel production and plan to sell in several different locations for the holiday season including the Chandler Holiday Bazaar from November 22nd – December 28th. It will be open Thurs-Sun from 10-4. This bazaar showcases high quality local products at a very affordable price. We will also be at the Montpelier Thanksgiving Market on November 22nd at the Montpelier High School. This is truly an astounding event- don’t miss it! And don’t forget to stop by Neighborly Farms Farm Store in Randolph Ctr, VT for the holidays. Our consortium of neighbor farms are putting together lots of amazing gift items that are all produced locally to sell throughout the season. Cheese, caramel, caramel gift boxes, granola, dried flower arrangements, t-shirts, hoodies etc…

Enjoy the cold and the winding down of a productive and wonderful growing season!
